ETHS Theatre—Course Descriptions 

 

1 THEATRE (Course # SA1440) 1 Semester

This is a semester-long  introduction to theatre during which students develop skills in improvisation, theatre games as well as scene study. This course is suitable for the theatrical novice and the experienced actor.


2 THEATRE 2/H (Course # SA2440 & SA2443) Full Year

This full year course is a challenging scene study course,  the essential question of which is, “Where does modern acting come from?” From there, students will engage and attempt mastery of many different styles of acting, from 20th century absurdism to the work of Shakespeare with many more in between.


3/4 THEATRE 2/H Full Year

Our advanced course, which features a curriculum that alternates every other year. While one year focuses on playwrighting and culminates in the construction and production of original one-act plays, the next deals more directly with the work of the director. Other units include accents and dialects, musical theatre, monologue workshops, and many more.


1 STAGECRAFT (S)  (Course# SA1330)  All grades. 1 Semester, 1 Credit (CTE or Fine Arts)

An introduction to most areas of technical theater including scenic design and construction, set decoration, prop and costume design, lighting design and sound design. Students work on practical projects related to current ETHS productions. Includes some painting, carpentry, drawing, and inventory management. May be taken twice for credit.
